In rising tides of uncertainty, may this be the anchor for our souls and the motivation for all we do

In a world that values achievement, productivity, and self-made success, it’s easy to measure our worth by what we do and how much we accomplish. To wear badges of success, and fill the walls of our homes with awards and accolades; mirroring the ambitions of our predecessors’ glory. That type of system drives us by any means necessary. And in the end there will be may shipwrecks, damage, and relationships that need some repair.

But followers of Christ are called to a radically different foundation. One that doesn’t begin with our own energies and efforts – but our relationship with Him. To be “anchored” means to be grounded, secure, and unwavering within, not apart from, the storms.

Many well-intentioned believers will seek this through career, relationships, or personal achievements. Yet, scripture reminds us that true establishment comes only from Christ. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Col. 2:6-7)

Because remember, living by Christ isn’t just about believing in Him; it’s about drawing our daily life, strength, and direction from Him. It means letting His presence shape our identity, our values, and our responses to life’s challenges. When Christ is our source, we are not shaken by circumstances, because our foundation is unmovable. Anchored in hope. “Christ in you, the hope of glory”   (Col.1:27)

Even as I write this blog it’s tempting to think that our work is valuable only when it’s impressive or recognized. But the Bible teaches that what matters is not the work itself, but its source. Because honestly, not many people other than you will actually read it. But, you are the one I needed to reach – so then it has accomplished its purpose. Our efforts, big or small, become part of God’s greater story when they are surrendered to Him.

Practical Ways to Live and Work from Christ

  1. Begin each day with Christ: Start your day in prayer and the Word, inviting Jesus to lead and fill you.
  2. Seek His guidance: Before making decisions or starting tasks, ask for His wisdom and direction.
  3. Work as worship: Offer your work to God, doing it with excellence and integrity as an act of worship.
  4. Stay connected: Throughout the day, keep conversation with Jesus, relying on His strength.
  5. Rest in His sufficiency: Remember: value and success are found in Christ, not in your performance.

“We’re only established as we live by Christ, our work is only established as it is out from Christ.”
