Look At It

A young man had an extreme fascination with everything to do with the ocean, and set out to obtain a degree in Marine Biology. Having saved all his money to do so, he entered the best school in the land hoping to fulfil his hopes and dreams.
Upon the 1st day of class he arrived to meet the Professor who came out to the center table of the classroom carrying a plastic fish on a stand. He (the Professor) proceeded to tell the class that this would be the First lesson, and that they were to…. “look at it”.
What?!?… The young man was taken back by the idea, and thinking to himself “wait a minute, I saved all my money up for this?”. Further frustrated by the fact “that this is the best this teacher can come up with”, “to bring a plastic fish out on a stand and place it in the middle of the room, for us to look at it!!”
With closed arms he refused to partake in the absurdity. And day after day the Professor continued to bring out this fish, and place it in the center of the room. Quite frustrated, and now regretting his life decision – even more so the choosing of this particular school. He finally decided that with all the money he’d put down, he might as well just go with it – and just look at the Stupid Fish.
As he began to look at, he initially just stared. Then, he began to really look at it. I mean, he sat up in his chair and he began to really sit and take notice. He patiently now started to see more than just a plastic fish on a stand. He started to see that this fish had a real design of God. The flow of its design, the elements, the construct. He began to see after some time the real characteristics of what he was now looking at.
Having spent much time looking at this fish, he pulled out a pad and pencil and began to draw out this fish for himself; carefully taking note of the fish’s design, its features. How each part of its body was juxtaposed to the next. Its flowing elements working in symmetry. Making the design a real work of Divine beauty. As the student was finishing up his proudly crafted drawing, the Professor walked out from around behind him and exclaimed that they were now ready to proceed to ‘Lesson 2’.
